WHAT MAKES SLS DIFFERENT?
SLS Group is carefully structured to maximize several principles that are fundamental to our partnership, including:
- Transparent and mathematical compensation. Partners are compensated according to a formula built around billable work collected from clients and client origination. No partner at SLS Group gets a “cut” of any other partner’s work. Instead, 100% of the profit of the firm is fairly and mathematically allocated among the partners with total equity and transparency. Our compensation model minimizes partnership disputes, ensures that all partners can be compensated based on their productivity, and allows each partner to dictate his or her own ideal balance between work and personal endeavors.
- Low overhead. SLS Group minimizes firm-level overhead and costs. Unlike many of our competitors, SLS Group does not provide its attorneys with fancy downtown offices, unnecessary support staff, and a bloated and poorly allocated marketing budget. Instead, firm-level costs and expenses are kept to a bare minimum. Our attorneys are encouraged to work remotely, staff is trimmed to the essentials, and firm-level costs are consistently reviewed for efficiency. Of course, certain “global goods” are provided by the firm, including insurance coverages, IT support, billing and invoicing, accounting services, and this website. However, the firm encourages individual lawyers or practice groups to invest in resources that are not universally valuable.
- Personal accountability and flexibility. Although our partners work together, cross-refer opportunities, and share resources and advice, each partner is encouraged to consider their practice their own business. Partners can earn more money by trimming their expenses, working more hours, or generating more clients. Alternatively, parters are always welcome to prioritize their personal growth over monetary earnings for any given period of time, and that choice is fully supported through our mathematical compensation model and low firm-level overhead. SLS Group can comfortably accommodate and expand upon our mixture of workhorse partners, rainmakers, and work/life balance-focused attorneys.
- Top-notch talent. Many of our partners were trained in the larger firms around Indiana, several received competitive judicial clerkships, most teach continuing legal education classes or are called upon to offer other public speaking to the legal community, and all are recognized are leaders in their respective fields. The firm remains dedicated to attracting top-talent lawyers to serve our fantastic and diverse clients.
Current Lateral Opportunities
SLS Group is presently seeking attorneys in several areas:
- Associate-level litigation or business attorneys who are looking to grow their skills alongside our talented partners, develop their entrepreneurial skills, and grow their client base into a sustainable career. Our firm prides itself on competitive compensation, creative and engaging training programs, and a fair and honest path to partnership.
- Real estate attorneys with at least some of their own portable book of business. Although our business and litigation teams have some functional real estate knowledge and ability, SLS Group seeks to expand its footprint in real estate law over the coming years.
- Trusts and estates attorneys. Many of our firm clients need wills, probate assistance, powers of attorney, and other estate planning services. Highly qualified and creative trusts and estates lawyers are welcome to contact us to discuss opportunities with our team.
Beyond those specific categories, SLS Group always welcomes inquiries from other talented and personable attorneys who have proven their ability to generate some or all of their own work. Our largely-remote structure enables us to consider partners outside of major metropolitan areas who wish to collaborate with a top-caliber team while working in their preferred town or county.
